America's homeland security advisor on countering domestic terrorism

Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall is the assistant to the president for Homeland Security and deputy national security advisor. She leads work on a range of national security threats, including domestic violent extremism, natural disasters, and bio-threats. Prior to returning to the White House, Sherwood-Randall served as the resident senior fellow at Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and a distinguished professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She previously served as Deputy Secretary at the U.S. Department of Energy from October 10, 2014 to January 20, 2017.

Frances Fragos Townsend, an on-air national security analyst for CBS News, was President George W. Bush’s homeland security advisor from 2004 to 2008. She served as deputy national security advisor for combating terrorism from May 2003 to May 2004. Prior to that, she spent 13 years at the U.S. Department of Justice under the administrations of Presidents George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush. Currently, Townsend is EVP, Corporate Affairs, corporate secretary and chief compliance officer at Activision Blizzard. She serves on the Miller Center's Governing Council.

Micah Schwartzman is the Joseph W. Dorn Research Professor of Law and director of the Karsh Center for Law and Democracy. He teaches constitutional law and the First Amendment (Religion Clauses). His areas of interest include law and religion, jurisprudence, and political philosophy. Schwartzman clerked for Judge Paul V. Niemeyer of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Prior to joining the UVA Law faculty, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at Columbia University’s Society of Fellows in the Humanities. In the spring of 2013, he was a visiting professor at the UCLA School of Law.
