Event Details
Kate Clifford Larsen has studied Harriet Tubman and the underground railroad since the middle 1980s. Tubman, born a slave on Maryland?s Eastern Shore in the 1820s, saw her sisters sold, bore the scars of whipping, and suffered permanent disability when an enraged overseer hit her with a weight hurled at another slave. In 1849, Tubman fled north, and connected with anti-slavery activists who came to be known as the Underground Railroad. Ultimately she led about 70 enslaved individuals to freedom. The New York Times praised Larson?s ?extensive and imaginative research in local historical sources.? Larson earned her bachelor?s degree from Simmons College, an MBA from Northeastern University, her M.A. from Simmons, and her Ph.D. from the University of New Hampshire. A book signing will follow the Forum. When
