As political director of ABC News since October 1997, Mark Halperin is responsible for the planning and editorial content of all political news on the network. A 1987 graduate of Harvard College, Halperin joined ABC News in 1988 and has covered stories as diverse as the Oklahoma City bombing and the O. J. Simpson criminal trial. He has covered four presidential campaigns and regularly appears as a correspondent and political analyst on ABC News television and radio programs. Halperin is also the founder and editor of The Note, which appears daily on ABCNEWS.com. U. S. News & World Report has called it ?a major player in national politics;? The Wall Street Journal says, ?The writing is always spicey, sometimes hilarious.? Mary Matalin has described Halperin as ?the insider?s insider?s insider.? The New Yorker has quoted his explanation of his mission as an attempt ?to channel what the chattering class is chattering about, and to capture the sensibility, ethos, and rituals of the Gang of 500, which still largely sets the political agenda for the country.?
