This conference will feature two special panel discussions on Partisan Rancor and American Democracy, at which leading scholars and practitioners examined the impact of party politics and polarization on the American democratic process. The morning session examined the party system through a historical and philosophical perspective and will be moderated by GAGE Co-Chair Brian Balogh and will feature Sid Milkis; James Davison Hunter, LaBrosse-Levinson Distinguished Professor of Religion, Culture and Social Theory in the Sociology Department at U.Va.; Nancy Rosenblum, Senator Joseph S. Clark Professor of Ethics in Politics and Government in the Department of Government at Harvard University; and Nicole Mellow, 2001 Miller Center fellow and Assistant Professor in the Political Science Department at Williams College.
