Matthew Lassiter, an associate professor at the University of Michigan, has written an in-depth regional study of Atlanta, Charlotte, and Richmond which looks at metropolitan expansion and Sunbelt growth, school desegregation and busing battles, suburbanneighborhood movements, and the emergence of an allegedly "color-blind" and middle-class-conscious ideology in response to the civil rights movement.
