Mark Shields has been involved in politics-first as a campaign manager, more recently as a columnist and commentator-since 1968. In 1979 he joined the Washington Post, and in 1987 he teamed with David Gergen to provide political analysis for The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer -- an assignment he continues now with David Brooks. He also moderates The Capital Gang every Saturday night on CNN.
